What Do I Do? - Advice on how to get an ibanking analyst program

Please give me advice on how I can get into an ibanking analyst program. I graduated in May of 2006 with decent GPA (3.7) from NYU with a degree in economics. I do not have an ibanking internship but have had internships in marketing and business (start up company) during all my time in college. I would love to get the chance to prove myself at a BB but would not mind starting out at a boutique to get experience.

It is now September and I am not sure how I can break into ibanking. Do I have to wait for interviews for positions beginning in June/July? I would like to start asap. Please let me know of any advice. Thanks.

the reason they start positions in july/june...is because they give you training. They can't teach 1 person at a time, its really not productive.

Or you can go somewhere else entirely, for 2-3 years. Then go to a MBA program, and upon completion get into ibanking as an associate.

I understand the reasoning behind training all analysts at once. You mentioned going somewhere else for the 2-3 years entirely instead of going into an analyst program. What fields/areas are best if I plan to pursue MBA program followed by ibanking associate?

I would hate to have a problem getting a good ibanking associate position because I lack experience in ibanking specifically.

Where did you go and how familiar are you with their faculty? Do you know of anyone in specific that I should contact for information/advice?

So my familiarity does not extend beyond the books they wrote and their standing in the academia... If you need the names, I can definitely give them to you, though I'm not sure that would help much. Do try the career center, try to tap into the alumni network - I would image a number of people with your degree from your school are ibankers. By the way, try doostang!

from what i understand, it doesn't really matter what you do...your best bet, is probably to try the personal wealth managment or trading(good money and stil finance related), then after 2-3 years to get into an MBA program, and finally get an Internship at an i-bank during the summer of your MBA program.

Altho I'm only a senior in college, so my information may be incorrect
