What do top groups really expect from interns?

Joining a reputable group in a fairly technical sector in NYC this summer.

I haven't done jackshit related to finance really ever since I got the offer. I keep hearing horror stories about how interns have failed to get return offers and a lot of my incoming co-interns on LinkedIn go to target schools and are actively involved in stock pitch competitions, school investment teams, etc. It looks like a lot of them are comfortable building models and have perfectly formatted powerpoint slides, etc. On the other hand, I just go to my bs non-target classes and sleep through them. I don't really have any idea of what is going to be expected of me this summer, or the types of tasks I will have. I crammed the 400Q before my interviews and sometimes wonder if I'm even deserving of the offer because I see other kids that are super up to date and knowledgeable on the markets and stuff, and I don't even know where to start in preparing for this summer and there aren't really any resources for me to figure that out. How can I somewhat un-fuck myself going into this summer if that's even possible lol

depends on how well u quick and well u can sponge up new info and ur groups culture too a lil bit. i was the same way, not dumb, but also never was fond of the tryhard culture at my school. ended up fine because like i said , im able to tackle most things that come my way . YMMV but if u truly believe u have that skill u will end up fine. prepping a lot of nonsense before ur internship wont benefit u as much as most students tend to think. i mention groups culture too because it can really depend.

my group has a fratty culture so it went in my favor and kids like that wouldnt be received well but if ur in a group where its the opposite i could imagine it going the other way
