What IBs hire and sponsor visa for international students for upcoming 2028 Summer Internship?

Being sophomore, I wanted to start networking to get into Investment Banking, but still confused what firms hire, so I could narrow it down to focus on those. I have been sending emails to recruiters of firms that have some kind of visa fillings, many of messages just ignored, but I got positive reply from Nomura, Jefferies, Macquarie, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley. Do you guys know anything about it?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s a breakdown of investment banks that sponsor visas for international students, which can help you narrow your focus for networking and applications:

Bulge Bracket Banks:

  • Sponsor: Goldman Sachs (GS), Bank of America (BofA), Citi (selective sponsorship depending on office), Credit Suisse (CS), Deutsche Bank (DB).
  • Don't Sponsor: JPMorgan Chase (JPM).
  • Unsure: Morgan Stanley (MS) – they technically sponsor but are very selective, often requiring candidates to be top-tier or diversity candidates.

Elite Boutiques:

  • Sponsor: Evercore (EVR), Lazard (LAZ), Moelis & Company (MOE), PJT Partners, Greenhill, Rothschild.
  • Don't Sponsor: Centerview Partners (CVP), FT Partners, Perella Weinberg Partners (PWP), Qatalyst.
  • Case-by-Case: CVP sponsorship varies by office and is highly selective.

Middle Market and Other Banks:

  • Sponsor: Jefferies, Nomura, Macquarie, William Blair, Mizuho, Rothschild, AGC Partners, LionTree, TD Cowen.
  • Don't Sponsor: BNP Paribas, HSBC, RBC, Stifel, Wells Fargo (WF).
  • Unsure: Baird, BMO, Canaccord Genuity, Cantor Fitzgerald, Deloitte Corporate Finance, Guggenheim, Houlihan Lokey (HL), Lincoln International, LionTree, MUFG.

Key Notes for Networking:

  1. Positive Replies: Since you’ve already received positive responses from Nomura, Jefferies, Macquarie, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley, these are excellent starting points. Focus on building relationships with recruiters and alumni at these firms.
  2. Target Firms That Sponsor: Prioritize firms known to sponsor visas, such as GS, BofA, Jefferies, and Rothschild.
  3. Selective Sponsorship: Be aware that some firms, like Citi and MS, may only sponsor for specific offices or top-tier candidates.

Next Steps:

  • Continue networking with professionals at these firms, leveraging LinkedIn and alumni connections.
  • Tailor your outreach to highlight your interest in their firm and your unique qualifications.
  • Stay persistent, as visa sponsorship can be a hurdle, but many firms are open to hiring international talent.

Good luck with your networking and preparation for the 2028 Summer Internship!
