What is a “top analyst”?
Hi everyone. I frequently see mentions of “top analysts” and “bottom bucket analysts.” Can someone explain the terminology? How does one become a top, middle, bottom-tier analyst?

Top bucket analysts use the search function instead of asking questions like this.
It's literally scoring. Depending on your class size, based on whatever rating methodology your group uses, a top-bucket analyst is usually in the top 3 or so in their class and bottom-bucket in the bottom 3 or so. All of your deal teams are asked to score you numerically based on a number of different things (modeling competency, work product, demeanor, etc). Bonuses are paid-out according to where you shake-out.
