What is “busy”

Everyone says it’s a super busy time for IB but what does “busy” mean (not dlj definition)? I’m a first year and didn’t intern in IB so can’t base my answer off anything. What would a typical workload look like for a BB coverage analyst?

If live deal you'll likley run into the 2-3 AMer nights multiple nights in a row, maybe even more + weekends

If you're just pitching / marketing and you're staying in until 3 am for that or coming in on weekends... you either have bad rep with your group and are getting fucked on shitty marketing / pitches. Or you're just slow at turning things around from process management / spinning wheels standpoint.

It's all group dependent.

My group head literally came and said if you are coming in doing marketing, let me know and i'll talk to the MD. Again, this is if you have good rep.

There is absolutely no reason one needs to come in on weekends to do a marketing meeting unless 2 reasons:

1. The analyst sucks and can't be trusted on live deals. Might as well staff them on marekting and get hours out of em on weekends. Likley not going to be A2A

2. The MD you're doing the marketing for sucks and thinks he needs marekting materials asap for meetings where the client literally wipes their ass with the 30 page deck that could've been 5 if you cut the appendices

^^ Just my 2 cents. I've since left banking, ran my own search fudn and now owner operate 2 business. I get pitched by banks probably once a quarter asking for a meeting to run industry slides / M&A opps etcs. I have not once read page to page any deck over 5 pages
