What is job security like in London?

As the title says. How is it like in London? How easy is it to lay people off compared to the US?

From what I understand, other offices in Europe are much harder to actually lay people off from, such as Paris or Stockholm. So I wanted to know how London compares...

Thanks!

Employment in Europe is not "at will", as it would be in the US. This simply means that you can't be let go "without cause". You can't terminate staff unless there was gross misconduct or a certain behavior. All processes for termination need to be followed.
But this is where the advantage ends: restructuring, headcount reduction, reducing expenses, ... are all valid reasons to terminate employment. I have seen many staff being made redundant for no other reason than reducing the size of the group.

The "safest" employment contracts are in countries like Germany, France and similar locations, where strong unions negotiate terms with the employer and the government.

While the UK has "more job security" than in the US, it is weaker than continental EU employment markets. This would also depend on the type of role, the industry, and what the economic outlook is.

This is all very generic, of course, and the legal framework gives you more detail if needed.
