What matters most to get into a "better bank"?

Hi monkeys,

Just get admitted in my MBA program and start to think about my post-MBA career. I did my research in the forum and let me summarize some consensuses (correct me if I am wrong) here: 1) almost every one who is committed to do banking in the top MBA programs (let's say M7/Tuck/Stern/Haas) can land an assoicate job in investment banking (BB/EB/MM). 2) so students in a MBA program are fighting with each other to get into a "better bank".

Okay in that case, I am just wondering what matters most in post-MBA IB recruiting to get into a "better bank"? I will list some thoughts in my mind: 1) personal networks: I understand networking is important for IB recruiting. Are personal contacts key to get more interviews in IB recruiting? (maybe I should start working on this now?) 2) relevant pre-MBA experiences: I spent four years in private equity in my pre-MBA work. Is this a considerable advantage to compete with ex-engineers and ex-pharma sale reps? 3) preparation of the interviews: I guess the school will help you on this part? 4) luck (it is certainly a game of chance...)

Can you share some insights on my thoughts above and maybe clarify that which one of those is the most important one to get into a "better bank"?

Thanks a lot!
