What should I do in this tricky situation?

Hi Guys, really need your help here.

I am a recent graduate. So I've been networking with an alum in a MM. I recently had a phone conversation with an associate in the firm in context of a first round interview, interview went very well, he said they are evaluating the headcounts and will get back to me soon.

THEN I got an email from HR saying I am not eligible to apply class of 2012 analysts because I am out of school..... WTF is going on? What should I do from now? I sent my contact an email and called him to leave a message. Should I try to speak to my interviewer as well? Any inputs are welcome, need them really bad!

Thank y'all!

You see, technically you graduated. You can't be surprised that your ineligible for the 2012 analyst class. My suggestion, don't lose contact with him, fin a firm that will help you obtain relevant experience, reach out to him next year and hope he will make a bigger push when a position opens. Try to make him feel guilty now so he feels as if he owes you a favor. What better way to repay a favor than helping you get the job! Good luck.
