What would cause you to remember someone?

Hi Guys,

Tomorrow I have an exclusive alumni networking event at Goldman Sachs. It is only going to be like 10-15 other students with like 10+ alumni and other goldman employees. I really want to make a good impression and have them remember my name come internship time.

What are some things I can do to stand out besides the usual

"know your shit"
"ask questions"

what types of questions are not appropriate or are overly repetitive for them to answer?

Thank you so much

Circulate...don't get locked into a coversation with one guy for 45 minutes. You want more than one person to remember you.

Little things go along way. If there is food, don't be a slob. Shake hands, make eye contact, be respectful.

You want them to talk about you after this is over so ask questions but also don't be afraid to show what you know

Be appropriately funny. Tell a good story or two. Entertain. This will get you remembered. If you "know your shit" and "ask the right questions," a good dose of entertainment will ensure you get remembered in a positive light. If you're a moron and are funny, you'll be remembered as the funny moron.

what would qualify as "knowing my shit"

im a first semester sophomore, how much am i expected to know?

"Look, you're my best friend, so don't take this the wrong way. In twenty years, if you're still livin' here, comin' over to my house to watch the Patriots games, still workin' construction, I'll fuckin' kill you. That's not a threat, that's a fact.

Enough to carry on a solid conversation and ask relevant questions etc. Don't bring up things you don't understand because then you look like a douchebag

Dude, relax...they know you're a sophmore so the expectations shouldn't be that high. Just talk about what you know but listen more than you speak. Find out if any of the alums were in an organization that you are a part of. Thats a great way to be remembered as well

Aside from something huge they've been involved with, I would avoid "knowing your shit" too much. Fact is, you don't know shit...and if you did, I would think that was weird. I would focus your questions more on generalities rather than acting like you memorized the vault guide the night before. I have found that it it is way easier if you know only a little than if you know their 10k. Then your questions appear, and are, more genuine.

Frankly, I think if they remember your name something will have gone horribly wrong.
