Whatever happened to drive and passion?
I was sitting in Managerial Accounting today and it finally hit me. Our generation is a bunch of fuck ups. There were 30 people in the class about 1/3 had read the book, there were only 2 of us in the entire class that bothered to try and answer questions the professor posed. The grand irony is this isn't a gen ed, this is the second course in the accounting sequence and required for the business core, the professor is good and engaging and the people nominally should want to be there. Am I the only disappointed with most people's lack of ambition and drive? Most of my friends didn't even work this summer, I spent 60-80 hours a week at my internship.
Half the MDs in the game today were high off their asses at a Yes concert at your/our age. None of them were motivated in any productive way.
This. We forget that we aren't the only generation that has made mistakes.
Managerial accounting sucks.
I used to think the same way, and then I realized, "hey, if everyone is lazy, and I'm hard working/ambitious, then I'll get all the offers/promotions/models/bottles". Thats all there is too it. Stop worrying about others and make sure you are working as hard as you want to be.
I don't think only 1/3 of the class would read the textbook at Wharton. You know what I'm saying? So if they don't, then it's your huge opportunity to get some silver bananas from your profs.
Or maybe they just have it all figured out...
Even if they don't read the text like you said, or answer questions in class, can they still get A's at the end of the semester? I'm sure a decent portion will be able to. In that case, they are just doing the economically rational action: maximizing utility (getting an A) while minimizing the amount of effort put into the class. Maybe they are just playing it smart.
LIBOR hit the nail on the head. They have figured out the game.
haha who the hell has "passion" for managerial accounting? that shits the worst
everyone is just gonna blow a bunch of adderal the night before the tests
lol if we were talking about some upper level literature class this might be a different story
Activity based costing flashbacks...
If everyone in this world is motivated and hard working the world will become extremely competitive. You have a competitive advantage, enjoy it while you can , as all the kids are eventually going to mature up.
Depends on the school you go to, in my opinion.
How is being interested in managerial accounting a sign of drive and ambition? In no generation has that ever enthralled anybody.
Not a fan of this post.. speak for your own experiences, but our generation has been footing the bill for two wars and I'm not talking about paying taxes or working, but paying with blood and sacrifice... time spent away from home and loved ones, coming home wounded, or not coming home at all. I know its just one example and its a minority of the 'generation', but your post just sounds dumb in light of this.
What is the percentage of people in this generation that has actually fought?
To answer that over a decent (believable) sample size, it would require a muti million dollar research over 7 continents.
Also I would like to say that just because you have not seen some one from young generation struggle and fight does not mean that they are non existent.
Specially when you come to developing countries you will find huge percentage of young people working 20-30 hrs a week, living frugally and attending college while getting good marks.
Who the fuck CARES what other people are doing. Keep your eye on the prize and go for it. People in general are fucking stupid: in this and every other era of history.
hahahaha
Accounting is the worst, but managerial accounting is like worse than watching grass grow.
I actually liked managerial accounting...
If you worked 60-80hrs during the summer then I assume you've figured out that the real world is a terrible place to be. Live it up in college, your life will never be so simple and enjoyable as it is now.
As far as accounting goes
debits on the left credits on the right. gogogogooggo
^I thought you were referring to the US only; correct me if I'm wrong. For the most part of history humanity has been at war, so this is nothing new. However, my point was that in the US, a small percentage of this generation has actually fought. In other countries, where you have mandatory military service, it may be different as people rotate through the army.
You will soon realize that there's a lot of retards in college where half will dropout/change majors/graduate in 5+ yrs/transfer/graduate expecting a job in their laps. Once you realize this, you will quickly not give a shit what anyone else does.
why r u a retard if you graduate in 5 years
The only thing I was motivated to do in Managerial Accounting was deep throat a gun
yea im 50/50 on this. managerial accounting doesnt turn most ppl on but ive seen the lack of drive and ambition in a lot of my friends too.
I constantly am made fun of by my friends because I'm actually trying to be proactive in finding internships, studying, joining clubs, etc. I do a lot of reading on the side as well, but on the bright side half of the friends that make fun of me I'll know will end up in 35k back office jobs updating trading levels on the funds I manage. But who cares about managerial accounting, there's a difference between striving for intelligence and pretending to like something and excelling for the sake of it.
^SB We didn`t go to college to become NAV specialists
i began giggling uncontrollably after reading that 2/3 of a class uninterested in managerial accounting equated to a deficiency in drive and passion. cost of labor + cost of direct materials + overh.....zzzzzzzz
Lol at tying managerial accounting to job prospects. I've calculated a lot of NAVs despite my school being too "prestigious" for accounting classes.
