lol OP is talking about SA, not FT

You should be going to info sessions and keeping your network active but there really won't be much to do app-wise until Christmas break.

When do you actually send your resume in? After first semester? so first semester grades will be on your resume?

You put your grades on your resume?

Started late summer - a few offers have been given out to accelerated candidates already at GS/MS and probably a few others

Formal process is kicking off now with info sessions throughout the fall and priority/accelerated/study abroad interviews throughout as well. OCR deadlines will be November through January (probably) for the majority of people. Online applications are (for the most part) meaningless but you should prob have it in for administrative purposes by December/January.

Don't wait for someone to come knocking down your door - the process has started and waiting until mid-winter to make moves is a huge mistake (unless youre at a target and all you need is a resume drop through OCR, but I've heard of sometimes that not being enough)

Black JackThis is not true- no accelerated offers have been given out yet- the earliest SA for study abroad students at BBs like MS/GS would be end of November/Early December- that said these places are beginning to do first round phone screens already.

Not true. a large amount of offers have been given out at GS already through accelerated and study abroad. they started accelerated with sophomore interns from other banks / interns from within GS from other divisions back in august.

thanks ricotta. so how exactly do you use contacts for networking to get interviews? once you have talked with them a few times, ask them during recruiting season? give them your resume and ask them to forward it to HR or whoever is going OCR at your school?

no correct formula for this - you'd have to play by ear and gauge what to do based off of your relationship with the contact. at the end of the day if you're not a target you'll need to have your contacts get your name into the recruiting process and have the power for their reference to mean something. plenty of threads throughout WSO that can give you others' perspectives on it as well but thats the jist.

I wouldn't start too early. It's a lot harder following up with people when you've already done it 5 times. Just wait until the beginning of November to get hardcore about it. In the meantime, go to any and all information sessions.

Actually there's an advantage to starting early. In Nov/Dec, those people are going to be bombarded with way too many e-mails from college kids, and hence they are far less likely to remember your name. Simply way too many names for them to really "notice" you. Better start now and make sure your name is one of the first that gets imprinted in their memory (and follow up later, of course).

Yeah I know a lot of people would disagree with me. I've just always found from personal experience that it's really hard to follow up with people after you've spoken to them a few times. If you're starting to network now, then yes - the earlier the better because it's already pretty late. I'm saying if you've been networking and need to follow up November is a better idea then once now and once again when recruiting is in full swing.

Don't put your GPA on your résumé unless its over 3.3. But, people will ask for a transcript eventually anyway. If your major is relevant, put your in-major GPA to get a bump.

Some places have application deadlines Nov/Dec, but most aren't until Jan/Feb. I'm sure there are exceptions, but I think interviews won't even start until Jan/Feb for summer internships.

Unpaid internships are almost always on a rolling basis - i.e., they don't have as structured a recruiting season as do your standardized paid ones. They're offered generally by boutiques, hedge funds, etc.

Most banks' deadlines are the beginning of the next year but you def don't want to wait until then!!!

Apply ASAP and then try to develop relationships. Also, try SEO.

Definitely get some applications in by Oct/Nov. When Jan/Feb rolls around you should have a good idea of where you stand and then you won't be flustered and will have a grip on the process should the Oct/Nov positions not work out. There's never any harm in getting your stuff in early.

a few early interviews have started (and a few offers given out) at both MS and GS. there will be several early interviews for priority candidates and study abroad people throughout the fall across all the banks. but the post above is right - the full fledged process will kick off in november.

^^ Wrong. I got multiple BB offers mid/late feb. The bulk of SA recruiting happens Jan-Feb, but I've seen people interview in late Dec as well as March.

Superdays occur at some BBs through the end of February. You should contact the career services office at the school you are transferring to. Resume drop deadlines for on campus recruiting vary by school and can be anywhere from mid December to mid January so you should look into getting access in December.
