When to Disclose PE Offfer

I’ve seen several conflicting thoughts on this and need a refreshed perspective.

My bank just sent out a note “encouraging” proactive disclosure of PE offers, and in exchange they’re letting people leave a month early and still getting paid their bonus…Sounds generous on paper but I’m trying to figure out how much this actually screws me.

The bonus I receive matters a lot to me and I am expecting to be a top rated performer.

Buyside recruiting at my bank has always been a gray area. Most people stay quiet until the last minute, but there are some who are open and it has worked out fine. For context, nobody at my bank knows I have an offer yet.

My worry: if I disclose, am I actually protected, or am I just making myself a target and quietly getting dinged on the number? And if I don’t disclose and they find out later, how bad does it actually get? (everybody is convinced I am doing A2A, which means whenever I do get paid, I assume there will be some clawback)

Congrats on finding a job out of UBS. Not telling anyone before I quit, I don't trust the seniors in my group. Though I am sure at least some people know from reference checking or backchanneling by the PE firm. The real question is just how public you want to make it, and when.  IMO, just not worth it. I am worried about if the culture and/or politics get even worse when they know you are on the way out.

That said, it's entirely group dependent. Legacy CS groups had a reputation for being decent about recruiting, even heard of MDs actively helping analysts get interviews at clients / top firms. Not sure how much of that culture survives post-acquisition. Also happy to chat more over DM's if helpful as another anonymous UBS employee.

What groups would you say are more accepting or less accepting of exits at UBS

Email Jamie to let him know your jumping ship. If you’ve kept it sealed this long, I’d just leave it sealed. Don’t risk it.
