Where are my ecm guys at?

Hey guys,

I have been in contact with serval great IBs, with mostly contacts in Ibd and a few within dcm. From everything I've read, positive and negative, ECM is a much better fit for what I want to do/my skill set and interest. In fact, at this point I've decided I would take a "less prestigious" bank ecm job over a top bank Ibd job simply because I think I'll be happier there long term (if given this option, probably will not be an option). If it ends up not being the fit I believe it will be I'll try to make a move, after all it's only an SA job.

The issue is (so far) in my network I have yet to run into any of these guys. What would be the best move to speak to one of these guys? I have legitimate interest in the product group beyond hours, pay, exit opps. I can find some of that online. I want to know about very specific types of deals and how they are staffed, logic, execution, valuations, and process from beginning to end. I understand some of this are online but not nearly as much as typical m&a/coverage banking. I'd like to learn about the culture of these groups and the types of people these groups attract. How do these guys specifically work with a coverage groups other product groups? What kind of duities do the senior bankers have? Many more.

Anyway, I have more interest than simply trying to network and get a job. I'd love to hear opinion on how to get ahold of these guys/mentors within the forum.

Honestly, I could be wrong about everything I've said. I am just really eager to learn more. I try away from saying on the phone that "I would really love to speak with an ecm banker" but maybe this is fine. Conversations just haven't flowed into a conversation about IPO/follow on/convertibles/ect.

Thanks, any advice is appreciated. Like I mentioned, I might persue a long-term career in ecm if my assumptions are true.

Sorry for grammar/spelling. Wrote it on my phone, will edit later on computer.
