Where to do my investment banking summer analyst?

I'm a rising sophomore in a midwest target (Chicago, Northwestern) majoring in econ and math. I'm planning to apply for summer analyst position for next summer as a sophomore (I know my chances are slim) I'm an international student, and I think I will be able to play around with my family connection to win a position in a bb ibd in my home country (not a "international financial hub" but a well known city). So my question is, would doing the sa gig in my home country seriously hurt my chances of getting a full-time position later in the US? Should I do whatever it takes to secure an internship in the US to get a job here later?

And one side question: how are midwest targets represented in the wall street?

dude ure a sophmore. if I were you id JUMP on an opportunity like that. as a soph there is NO WAY ure getting pigeon-holed anywhere and you could easily gain an added advantage over someone who did a summer internship even in nyc by talking a bit about the international exp etc. u'll be head and shoulders above other sa 2014 junior year applicants in nyc. ure in a really, really solid position. god dam I wish i was more into this a year ago. so many lost opportunities.
