Where to start

Good afternoon everyone,

I have posted here a long long time ago, but wanted to see what everyone’s thoughts were. I did 5 years infantry with the 101st Airborne, made sergeant, now I work at a category 1 nuclear fuel facility. I have my bachelors finally in security and intelligence with a focus in Latin America. Basically I am not making any leeway in the intelligence community and I’m tired of working in a plate carrier as well. I still have plenty left on my GI bill and I was thinking about a complete career change. If I were to get into this side of things where should I start? What degree should I get? Accounting? I am just very unsure, any criticism and or help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Nick

Do you think it would be wiser to get an MBA with out having a background in that area? Or start with a second bachelors ? I just want to come out swinging to compete with others

Excuse me more wise *

Do an MBA and use you LatAm knowledge... it can probably open doors into consulting/banking teams focused on that area out of NYC.

MBA is probably the best route. Programs consist of people from a huge range of background (check out class profiles) so don’t worry about having a unique background. If you could go to a T14 with most / all paid for by GI, you’d be in great shape.

Alternatively, you could check out some of the military programs that allow you to transition from the military without MBA. Goldman’s Veteran Integration Program, JP Morgan’s Military Pathways, and BAML has one too I think. Not sure exactly how competitive these are. Also not sure how much control you’d have over your exact placement. So I think MBA is still the preferred route.
