Which FIG teams are good other than JPM/MS/GS?
hi guys, just want to know about the FIG sector in general. I am interested in FIG, and have generally researched this forum, but have only seen posts about GS/MS/JPM FIG.
I want to know that other than these three banks, how do the other BBs specifically (Citi/baml/CS) stack up there in terms of deal flow?
I have heard that in London, Citi, MS, JPM, GS and MS are the best, but want to confirm both that and how those are in NY? I want to spend some time working in FIG in both London and NY.
in NYC, same three are top of the street with GS leading. MS FIG has culture issues but is still very well respected.
CS, Citi and BAML FIG seem to get good deal flow but are a notable step behind the three mentioned above, although i'm sure youll get a solid deal experience at any of them
dont know about DB/UBS FIG but i imagine theyre not something to write home about
thanks man. i heard though citi fig was "globally" no 1 last year, and heard that historically it has been one of the best at citi.
Any chance you could elaborate on the culture issues at MS FIG?
If you want FIG you want GS, KBW, Sandler, MS or BAML.
and what qualifies you to say that?
I worked in FIG at a bulge bracket. My username is old. Outside of GS, MS and JPM, in North America, the only people really doing deals consistently are the specialty shops. Take a look at Retuers deal intelligence if you want quantified proof.
CS FIG not as good as it used to be.
i havent heard good things about ML FIG, but my sources might be bad.
ML and Citi do alright because they advise the parents.
would you, by any chance be aware that how do ML and Citi FIG M&A analysts generally stack up in terms of exit opportunities, or where have they historically been placed in the past?
If you want exit opportunities, avoid FIG outside of GS FIG. A lot of funds and headhunters automatically dismiss or play down the FIG experience vs. M&A or another industry group. Yeah you'll have FIG analysts go to great funds but in general go for another group
What about Lazard FIG?
I put in a lot of thought into this, and I think despite being limiting in options, one is bound to have a great experience in FIG. You really are a specialized banker and you stand out from the rest. Of course, some might see this technical expertise of a FIG banker as a downside, but I see it as an advantage. A consumer, industrials banker will not know how to value financial institutions.
I also spoke with some people within the banking industry, and this stereotype of GS FIG being the only thing FIG place with strong exit options is highly flawed and unnecessarily distorted. JPM, Citi, DB, ML, MS FIG teams apparently have strong exit options too!!
How's Barclays reputation in this space?
