Heard EVR been taking a lot of less qualified candidates lately

Instead of Wharton, they’re finally taking in some people from Harvard!

Do you have a high GPA? If so you should have a decent chance with many firms if you network well. A high gpa should be competitive when compared to most of the typical applicants from a good school

Real answer: for an EB, moelis is more open to nontargets than most others. they only have 4 target schools, so if you're a nontarget you literally get bucketed in the same pipeline as harvard kids

I'd take this with a grain of salt. Moelis considers Duke, Notre Dame, and Columbia to be non-target (non-core in their vernacular) schools, and IU Kelley and Michigan as "Target" Schools.

Would add Baird to your list above.

You can tell pretty easily which ones - if more than half their team comes from a random school, put more of your efforts in places like that

You're spot on. I had a few "token" interviews at some EBs, mainly due to networking and having a few analysts who would advocate for me. I've gotten to know them well to the point that, although we've never met in person, I can text them whenever and they are very responsive. Before being rejected from one EB, one of them mentioned their team passed me up for the FT interview because of my non-target school. In another case, while I got a first round, I faced a similar situation of being passed up for not being a target student. I used to believe that once I entered the interview process, it was mine to lose based on all the preparation and hard work I put in. However, I've come to realize that these interviews aren't necessarily seeking the best candidates; they're looking for candidates who look the best on paper. Their preference for the "target school" option seems to stem from uncertainty about who can handle the workload and be a good analyst and it’s much easier to choose the safe target school candidate.

I don’t care about getting brownie points, I have nothing to gain by bragging on anon

Trying to show that it’s possible to get good opportunities and to not let school be a barrier mentally

Check out stephens bank, they're practically majority state school alum and hire from all sorts of places as long as the students are driven and bright
