Why do we export excel charts to PPT using FactSet instead of the native tool?
Both places I've worked at now use the FactSet "export to powerpoint -> chart as picture) function to export charts from excel to ppt. But you could also just ctrl+c ctrl+v the chart into ppt and use the native "keep source formatting and link data" option, which seems better to me because the excel is linked, the data updates automatically, and the individual chart elements can be edited in ppt. So why can't i do it that way?

dont f****ng move
That’s what I do lol
Only useful when you have different financial scenarios in the ppt and need to switch cases in the excel. Otherwise, I’d never paste as picture
It’s more stable. It’s easier to keep track when all chart backups are in the same excel. It’s easier to update the chart in excel if the backup calcs are complex. It hides the underlying figures in case the PPT is shared with the client.
Pasting as a picture reduces the size of the PPT by a lot, especially if you have dozens and dozens of outputs.
oh totally makes sense. When I use the factset import it always comes out a little blurry, is there a way to fix this or no?
There should be - I haven't used the Factset plugin for a hot minute but it probably has something to do with the sizing. Are you pasting as is, or are you resizing in the PPT. There's also some paste settings in the plugin you can mess around with. I never had any major issues that I could recall.
Always ran into issues with the chart not updating in ppt doing the native import, when it did work it was great being able to format in ppt, but factset more reliable and lowers size of ppt.
