William Blair Update

I know Blair’s had a couple of rough years, but I’m seeing a lot of job postings lately and have read that bonuses were pretty solid this year.

How’s morale overall? Does it feel like things are starting to turn around? Is it worth applying?

William Blair has had its ups and downs recently. Based on the most helpful WSO content, morale has been a mixed bag. While the firm is known for its strong culture and "work hard and you’ll be taken care of" ethos, there have been concerns about trust due to recent bonus-related issues. For instance, morale hit a low point when many employees didn’t get their expected numbers, leading to rumors and some employees considering recruiting elsewhere.

However, there are positive signs. William Blair has been offering competitive bonuses, such as a one-time bonus structure for associates, analysts, and VPs, which aligns with the trend of lifestyle bonuses in the industry. Additionally, the firm’s employee-owned structure and strong culture are often highlighted as key advantages, even during challenging market conditions.

If you’re considering applying, it’s worth noting that the firm has a reputation for professional growth opportunities and a supportive environment. While the market and internal dynamics have been tough, the recent job postings and bonus updates could indicate a turnaround. If the culture and compensation align with your goals, it could be a solid opportunity.

Tight knit junior culture and I think bonuses have recovered back to street after 2022-23 but everyone I know there is getting Worked with a capital W.

Can’t help you with HC, but my original comment pertained exclusively to CHI. The analysts / associates that I know there across the bank are logging off at ~2am on average with heavy weekend work.

Current analyst here in one of the mentioned groups (HC/Tech/Tech Services).

Can confirm it has been extremely sweaty for some time now, and weekend work is expected, despite a tight knit junior class as well as an overall strong “culture.” Regular 2am+, some Saturday’s, full Sunday’s. I want to leave.

Only plus side was bonuses (January 2026) were pretty strong and~20%+ compared to last year.
