WSO Happy Hour in NYC - July

In light of monty09's Houston steak and poker night thread, I thought I'd make one for New York.

Anyone down to meet up for happy hour/dinner/drinks during one of the first weekends in July (8-10th, 16-18th)? I hate to call it a networking event since that sounds too formal and I'm more interested in meeting some new people and having a good time, but if you want to come to grow your rolodex, there's nothing wrong with that.

Coming from out of state, I'm not very familiar with the happy hour scene in the city, so throw out some suggestions if you have any. Not sure if a Friday happy hour would work given our hours (it's training hours though), but I've never heard of Saturday happy hours.

We can set a firm date/location as it gets closer to July. Bring your new analyst buddies, roommates, friends living in the city, girlfriends/boyfriends, moms, etc., and we'll have a good time.

Guest1655most guys that wear suits at bars/lounges are Douche-bags.
If it's clear that you just got off work, I'm ok with that. Jacket is off, sleeves rolled up, top button undone and tie loosened up...it's all good. But these motherfuckers that walk into bars in their JC penny suit thinking they look important...they make me want to get my bottom bitch a cranberry vodka and have her spill that shit all over that d-bag's suit, and then watch as his insecurity and tiny nutsack overtakes him and he actually ends up apologizing and buying her another drink before he goes home to masterbate to anime. fucking fags piss me off

If it's in mid-town, I might be interested.

Unfortunately, people will be expecting industry folks to show up and hand out interviews like they're candy. Please bear in mind that most of us can't do that unless we're at the VP+ level. Assuming everyone understands that some of us are here just to show up for a few drinks and just meet in person some of the folks we type with every day, we can make it work.

Some people might prefer weekdays. Most firms are b-cazsh on Fridays, and there's a number of after-work-kinda bars where you won't be a douche if you're wearing a dress shirt and slacks- and you would fit in wearing jeans or shorts and any kind of collared shirt, too.

SACFriday happy hours would probably work best. A bar in midtown would be good. Just gotta make sure its not all prospective monkeys hoping to hit up the experience monkeys for interviews.
Exactly. I love you guys, but I have enough people to take care of at work as it stands. If it turns into a networking event, I will have to commit sepuku- I have already been networked to death.

Another thing is that it should be a diverse group professionally, not just a bunch of traders jawing about the market or bankers about the latest deal

Affirmative_Action_Walrusyou all are going to be fucking disappointed when you meet each other in person....
Yes. When you walk into the bar, the 13 year-old girl trying to get an internship in IBD will go "Ewwww!! I was expecting the troll with green hair, not brown!" :D

well, if there is a 13 year old girl trying to meet me, then only one of us will wake up the next morning disappointed...

After reading some of the posts in this thread (but more generally, on this site), I might have to agree. The quality of WSO users has plummeted since I joined this site back in '07. Guys in the industry were replaced with kids who became too old for collegeconfidential.com, all of whom apparently go to HYP and work for GS TMT or MS M&A.

May have to stick with the proven method of meeting friends through friends.

If you're going to do it, do it sometime mid/late-July after first year analysts & associates start.

BoomstickBankerAll the summer analysts have training that week of June 7th through the 11th, so having it scheduled in that time frame would enable us to go. I suppose I can't speak for all the SAs, but I would be going simply for a good time.

your idea of a good time is hanging out with strangers you met on the internet? jesus christ

Never even saw this thread... hah I'd go to meet you guys I could care less about panhandling for a job

Though I guess then my true identity would be revealed

looking for that pick-me-up to power through an all-nighter?
