Accounting Major - Junior majoring in Bus. Admin.
I have posted this before, and didn't get my question answered. I am going to re-phrase the question. I am a junior majoring in Busn. Admin with a concentration in Accounting. What kind of jobs would be able to get on "the street"? My concetration used to finance, but I got spooked because I did horrible in intro to finance (pricing bonds, and prepetual growth principles) I am now in accounting; I still really want to work in finance, but don't really know what kind of job a degree in accounting can get you these days with all the complex formulas and logrithums that pop up. Help!
You got "spooked"?
Maybe you should just go into psychology or some other bullshit major.
You couldn't handle intro to finance, but you want to work in finance on wall street?
Doesn't make sense. Either work hard to learn finance or you'd probably be better trying something else.
Finance math is honestly not that hard, especially at the intro to finance level. Dedicate yourself by doing practice problems at the end of the book like how a science/engineering major would, and you should be fine.
I agree with earlier posts. I would also like to point out that as an accounting major you have just as many opportunities as finance major, in fact, I would endeavor to suggest that you have more opportunities. You certainly can break into banking with a degree in accounting, after all, the financial modeling you will be doing is heavily based in accounting. By having a strong grasp of accounting you will develop the ability to understand companies by the numbers. I think the skill set you develop lends itself to almost any position in finance. Just as well, if you decide you do not like finance you can become an accountant for a big 4 or work at a large company in almost any department. At the end of the day I think its best to do whats most appealing to you even if it proves to be difficult at the start. Good Luck
This. I'm pretty sure accounting majors can get most of the jobs that finance majors can get but it doesn't work the other way around... If I wasn't planning on going into CS and was trying to get into Ross alone, I'd pick accounting as my major over finance. I've heard it's not an easy major though.
Intro to finance is not that hard.
Don't do a concentration in accounting if you are not getting 27 accounting credits with upper level accounting classes. No one decent will hire you for a good accounting gig if your concentration is only comprised of 4 or 5 basic accounting classes.
My school scammed us into believing that we could do accounting concentration only to find out that was pure bull shit. Courses go up to intermediate 2
