Am I fucked - accepted two internships accidentally

I'm a freshman doing a spring internship at a small merchant bank. My boss wanted me to sign for both the spring internship and the summer, so I signed a contract from Feb-May and then May-August.

Another opportunity came up and I decided to sign for another firm from May-August. I never knew it was considered scummy so I thought I was just going to quit my first firm and start my new internship in the summer. Now that its almost may I'm not sure what I should do since I read a few forum posts that said it might fuck my career later down the line.

For context, the managing partner that I work under in my current firm seem to be decently connected. He was the Middle East/African president of a pretty big investment bank (HL, Jefferies level) and was in JPM/GS/MS before. Am I fucked? What should I do?

Well I have some maybe good news? You are definitely not fucked. However you have a choice to make. You clearly really want to do the other firm for summer. You could tell your boss the truth, but there is some risk with that that he might pull the spring gig that you want. Alternatively you can just announce in May that you are leaving, and they will eventually figure out why since you will want to put it on your Linkedin. They won't be happy about it, and I wouldn't plan to ask them for anything ever again, but you wouldn't be the first person to burn a bridge in this industry. But if you want to maintain the relationship I wouldn't do that. One approach might be to request a phone call, and tell him you received the other offer, and you wanted to discuss it and get advice. It sounds like a great opportunity, but you also want to honor your commitment to his bank. What does he think? Would this internship be helpful if you came back to his bank for full time? I don't know what kind of relationship you have with the guy, and it's not without risk I'm afraid.
