Am I in the right place - economic research?

I want to work in economic research after I get my M.S. Economics from Tufts next year. Not sure if this is the right place to ask since the site is geared towards trading, but I did interview for a job at MS in economic forecasting which seemed interesting (didn't interview well though). My stats are 3.8 from 2nd tier state school (econ/math), 800Q on the GRE....2 years of work experience in consulting, but nothing special. I'm hoping the Tufts name will make things a bit easier for me compared to the state school name I had (although I was able to land interviews with MS and NERA after moving to NYC). Any thoughts of what firms and divisions I should look at if I want to do economic research?

Tufts name in the finance world is non existent. If you wanted a MS in econ you should have gone to MIT. Tufts has no visibility whatsoever. good luck

Yeah, okay, we are off on a tangent anyways. I applied to some PhDs and got in, but no way I was getting into MIT. It would be great if you can just sign up for MIT or Harvard, but unfortunately it's not so easy. I went to a state school so I am happy with Tufts. Jamie Dimon, CEO of JP Morgan, went to Tufts for undergrad so it can't be that bad.

Ultimately I'd like to work for the fed or economic research or something, but just wondering what my chance of working in finance after I get my MS would be.
