Applying to US jobs as a non-national

Hi there,

So I'm an international student studying in America in the beginnings of my dreaded application process for graduation 2011.

I am a EU passport holder, with an F-1 Student Visa.

As you know, one can only apply to a limited number of positions and locations at a majority of the financial institutions.

Although, I love America, and could see myself living here forever, I am very open to new experiences in other locations around the world.

As someone who is applying for IB analyst positions, do you think I would have a far better chance applying to a location like London where I do not need work Visa sponsorship in the future, versus the NYC office, where I would need sponsorship?

Love the website, all your insight, and techno

Tehcno, most IBs don't care about Visa sponsorship, the process is pretty easy and straightforward. Someone else may have more insight on this, but I think only BofA and Blackstone don't sponsor for entry-level positions.

Even a lot of HFs and PE firms would sponsor you as long as you're a good candidate. That being said, make sure you mention it at the END of your interview.Obviously, to hedge your bets you should apply to positions in Europe but you should be on equal footing with other candidates. I know someone who was denied a Visa for some reason and they transferred him to Amsterdam and now London, so they may be willing to transfer you to London even if your visa falls through.
