Are offers ever given out after rejections?
had a superday about a week ago and was told by a few people that there would be a really fast turnover. by really fast..i thought this meant like 24 hours to a few days max. it's not a bb, so i figured 3 days would be the absolute longest.
i knew a few other people interviewing, and 2 of them have gotten rejections and another guy hasn't heard back yet.
i didn't expect a firm like this one to have a waitlist, but by the looks of it I'm assuming i'm waitlisted? rejections went out like 3 days ago...any chance they just haven't put out offers yet? i thought the interview process went really great, so i guess i'm surprised and confused that i've heard nothing back. any ideas?
don't let it hang and just move on. worst thing you could do is to assume or expect something.
not expecting anything at this point, just wondering why i haven't heard back but rejections have. i thought rejections were always the last to hear
Same shit happened to me. I crushed 1st rounds, followed up with my interviewers who said I absolutely floored them, went to superday, did very well and was supposed to get an offer, according to a contact. This was a while back (1yr) and I have still never heard the verdict, but the two other candidates from my school got dinged in a week. The firm was told to restrict its hiring to a few certain schools at the last minute and that unfortunately ruled me out. This was at a BB but I ended up getting a better offer. Anything could be happening behind closed doors and its best for you to move on. Theyre most likely keeping you on a backup waitlist.
Sounds like some sort of wait-list. Maybe if it's not a normal wait list (in that they're waiting to see if other people sign offers first), then they're just waiting to see if other people apply, so they can interview them too. Or maybe HR is just slow (happens a lot).
Give it a few more days. That said, I would assume the worst and put all your energy into finding new options and preparing. Maybe you'll get lucky with this one, but don't waste your time worrying about it.
Yes, who knows what goes on behind closed doors. I think you should move on, and if they call you back just take it as good news. But you shouldn't sit and wait for the call, but move on and get on with other opportunities.
just got a rejection call. seriously don't understand this recruiting process anymore. i was told by everyone that it went fantastic and i had a really solid chance, and then a rejection? wtf. it was my last superday too..nowhere to move forward to except working for free at a boutique. fml
don't give up hope yet! you should sign up for connectcubed (www.connectcubed.com) .. we're a new startup that lets aspiring financiers prove their finance skills by playing finance assessment games. our top performers are recruited by our hedge fund and ibank partners. if you need an internship, check us out!
Guess what, you have about 1:200 odds in this environment. Banks know that you are unlikely to have other offers so they string you along mercilessly. It sucks but it's reality.
Dont worry man.. exactly the same sh-- happened to me for a BB SA.
Killed 1st rounds/final rounds, alumni said that I was solid and that I should be sitting pretty. The next day, my one friend gets dinged along with another guy. The next day 4 others get dinged (we stayed in touch through email). At this point there were only 2 or three of us left for s&t so I was pretty confident that I was 'still in the hunt'. It was on the fourth day, at 6pm that I rcv'd the news. Made me literally sick to my stomach, didnt do anything for the rest of the week but sleep. The stress and the extra waiting is vicious.
Although it was my last superday... I hustled my azz off to get a sorta relevant internship and luckily landed a FT gig. So dont beat yourself up, just keep fighting.
But, the general rule is: if you dont hear back from your super day the next day, you are very unlikely to rec'v an offer.
you could always work in the BO
It happens. I was rejected from my last year's SA position, and then they called me a month later and said that dealflow was higher than they thought it would be and they needed more interns. This was at a mid-market.
