Bad to Reschedule Superday?

Just got a second round interview with Morgan Stanley for a summer analyst in NYC but it is the same day I fly out to St. Louis for a leadership conference.

Is it bad to reschedule interviews that take place on superday and does it have any affects on your chances of getting the offer?

-Thanks

rescheduling a Super day Interview

It is possible to reschedule a super day. However, you should only reschedule if you are absolutely certain you can’t make it. If you have a scheduling conflict with a class it’s probably better to miss the class (not considering exams). You can always cover the material you missed at a later date.

You may be at a disadvantage if you reschedule. Consider those other candidates may be filling up open slots before you even interview. But this is not always true as some firms have a certain number of slots for every super day group.

Key Takeaways

  • Only reschedule if it is absolutely necessary. They will understand if you have a legitimate reason

I've known some BB's to be flexible with people who couldn't make the specified superday however keep in mind that you'll be at a serious disadvantage.

I rescheduled and still got the offer. I was even honest and expressed that i was interviewing with another firm. probably a bad idea, but if you are polite and show appreciation, the gate keepers may accommodate you.

Like a couple other posters, I had to reschedule a FT banking superday (for an interview I had already agreed to attend actually) and I'm going to be starting there over the summer. As long as you give them a legitimate reason why you won't be able to make it everything should be fine -- every bank will take at least 'X' number of applicants from every superday.

I've known some BB's to be flexible with people who couldn't make the specified superday however keep in mind that you'll be at a serious disadvantage. If a firm brings 20 people to a superday looking to hire 5 kids and they have 8 strong candidates then you're kind of screwed. Some firms will simply cancel your superday, others will still interview you (to keep their word) but since they already have their guys/girls (from the 1st superday) they're looking for reasons to ding you so you'll have to really really impress.

Alright, thanks guys. I will just email them after the holidays and say that I am unable to make it and ask if there is any way to do it on another date. In response to the first poster- yes, 100% unable to make it, unfortunately. I'm (not trying to be arrogant) a pretty top candidate for this bank (they've been trying to recruit me since last January), so I am hopeful they will be understanding, but I will let you guys know.
