Citi Hong Kong Management Associate Program
Hey everyone, I just got accepted to Citi Hong Kong's Management Associate Program within their Institutional Clients Group and was wondering if anyone could give me some more info/opinions on it. I know it's a rotational program over 24 months, but that's basically it. Does anyone know if it's a good program for me to start off at if I can't get something in the US? Also, how is it salary wise? Thanks!
I just got a phone interview invite for Citi's Management Associate Program in Singapore (the fastest reponse I've ever gotten from HR.....must be an Asian thing). Can you tell me what kind of questions they asked you, and how many rounds you went through? Thanks!
to polandspring99: The program is for their Institutional Clients Group which deals a lot more with corporate finance than direct investment banking. I think for that role there is a lot of head room to grow and expand for IPO, leverage finance, corporate advisory and M&A. The thing is if you want to become an analyst, it might not be the fastest route.
As for the pay, it's one of the better paying graduate jobs. It's around $20k to $30k HKD a month (remember, it's monthly, that's the Hong Kong way).
Are you on the east coast? What processes did you go through for them to extend you an offer? The thing is I am from Vancouver, and I have gone through 2 phone interviews (a recent one 2 weeks ago with both Citi Hong Kong Institutional Clients Group's Head of HR and Director of Finance). Is there supposed to be one more process? Please help if possible.
to recession.graduate: I am not entirely sure how the Singapore MA recruitment process compared to the Hong Kong one, but I can tell you what my was like (I went through 2 layers of interviews with Citi Hong Kong for this position as well recently).
The weird thing was I was prepared to answer more technical questions but instead they concentrated on asking me about my past experiences, what I learned there and how would I deal with or improve those environments/systems. As with HR, they tend to ask very basic questions like what are your strengths and weaknesses etc. They also asked why you want to work for them and such, but, as I mentioned earlier, they didn't ask anything technical at all (not even about current events, etc.).
As for rounds, I went through 2 rounds so far? First was with two representative from the Finance department. My recent one was two individual phone interviews (30 minutes apart) with the Head of HR and Director, Finance. Other than that, I don't have much more to tell you. Hopefully polandspring99 can give you some better details.

Hi everyone! Thanks Swinpat for posting your comments. I'm currently considering applying to Citi MA program as well but my program is in Vietnam. I know they model theirs after the Singaporean Citi MA program and so any inputs about the program in general will be greatly appreciated. Do you guys know if the program is well run? how is the reputation? what do people do after completing the program?

this MA program has nothing to do with corporate finance. it's all about corporate banking, cash management, trade finance, treasury service, etc. the treasury dept in Citi HK is called FICC, but they are not doing real FICC stuff (still in corporate bank, just make it sound good) . real FICC in Citi is GFICC if you want to develop a career in investment banking, sales & trading, .... those have their own Analyst/Associate program. this ICG MA program not the right choice.
ICG MA (Hong Kong) is decent if you didn't get any other offers. The rotations itself has little to do with IB, but I know several people who were able to leverage the experience and lateral out into analyst-level FO positions in IB within 12-24 months. Definitely better than MO/BO positions.
Salarywise, I believe the pay is not the same for all MAs, but is based on experience (i.e. if you join with 2 years experience, you'll get paid more than a fresh grad. I know this is the case for Citi GCG MA.). That being said, I believe the figures you are looking at are in the 20-25k per month range.
pay is same for all MAs in ICG in the first 2 years (you're paid thru a cost centre for ICG MA program).
nearly 50% of MAs were placed in BO/MO, e.g. operations, finance, etc. the FO roles when you discuss with HR are: relationship manager, and sales/dealers in treasury dept (the fake FICC i mentioned above). but for better placement, you face fierece competition because many MAs are relationship hire.
bankwanna, 90% of the MAs i know who were transferred to IB are relationship hire., whose father is a chairman of another bank, or a government official, or....nevertheless, if you've no other offer, MA is a very good one, good training for corporate banking and lots of exposure.
Anyone applying to the ICG MA program in Kuala Lumpur? The deadline for the August 2010 intake is surprisingly late.....in July 2010.......

Anyone knows what's the current trend of Citi's MA program especially Citibank Technology Management Associate in Singapore? I have finished two rounds first was general HR interview and second was a case study and group discussion. Now am called for third and the final stage, but I wonder what kind of interview it will be? Whether it will be a general suitability checking interview or a technical one checking on programming languages! Thank you.
