Citi Smith Barney FA?

Hey all,

I know there are a lot of bullshit FA programs out there. Almost like "the cutco knives" of financial or insurance products (AXA, Northwestern Mutual, etc . . ) However, I was curious if different programs were regarded differently. For example, what about a Citi Smith Barney who solely deals with High Net worth individuals? Are all FA jobs pretty much sales? Or do some require more of a product knowledge than others?

Just curious . . .

Thanks,

I Worked for FAs at Smith Barney last summer. They were very familiar with the products they used but weren't stock pickers. I would say that their two main responsibilities were: 1) maintaining client relationships (i.e. sales) and 2) choosing funds to invest their clients money in. The latter responsibility requires FAs to be pretty savvy in gauging the types of returns a particular fund might yield and how that fund accords with a given client's asset allocation strategy. I also know that some of the other financial advisors at the branch did their own stock picking. I hope that this answers your question.

Also, FYI, the official title is now Morgan Stanley Smith Barney.
