Dilemma

Dear monkeys,

I have just finished a masters and have received a low-ball offer to move to a very niche asset class (Securitised products).

My hope for the end of the masters was to secure an Investment/AM role at a RE MM fund either focusing on equity or debt opportunities. But the job market has been brutal for the past year (especially in London where I am based).

My dilemma is: take the offer as the market risks to deteriorate even further or keep chasing the dream with the hope that we have bottomed.

Any help/opinion is more than welcomed !

Many thanks !

My advice would be to take the offer. Nothing prevents you from applying for other roles and speaking with recruiters on the side. Your "equity story" will make sense - you're in a niche product area and want broader experience. Everyone gets that.

I take the point that doing so leaves you with less time to apply, but if you're actually motivated you'll be able to find time. I know it's not "zero downside", but there's a real downside in the current market of applying and applying and not getting a role - an empty gap on a CV right out of university is not optically good, even if you can find an interesting story.
