Don't know what to do

I will start by saying that I am a freshman, and my grades were p good first semester. I also had a PE internship in the fall that I worked my ass to get and be in. I landed an IB internship during the spring after grinding my ass off to get one. However, I can't get into any of the clubs in my school. I don't know how to feel about this. I always get to the first rounds for the interviews, and they ask me some obscure ass questions that I have no clue how to answer. I see my peers continuously gaining club placements, and I can't get into one. I was wondering if someone had advice on what I should do. I am part of a frat, but I also want to do something that will help me professionally. (Hopefully, making it easier for me to network with bankers and get an IB job).

Don’t be discouraged. I was in a similar boat and got rejected from my school’s finance club for 3 semesters, and only got in my second semester of sophomore year. It definitely helps with connections, but it’s certainly not a prerequisite to get into banking.

What I would recommend is attending their general meetings. Speak with the current executive members of the club to build a rapport with them before the next hiring round. That should help get your name across and help you get a position later on. Don’t get discouraged and keep grinding! It will all work out soon enough.
