Double Major in Philosophy
from what i hear, double majoring doesnt really give you an edge when going for investment banking jobs (correct me if im wrong) but it does help for MBA school
i really dont like econ very much but im majoring in it because i have to. for a double major, id like to do something i find more interest--philosophy or political science. but this means having to take more classes and sacrifice the ability to graduate a quarter early, so ill only do it if it helps me in some way.
would double majoring in philosophy significantly help my chances for a top business school down the line? or would they not care because it is not quantitative?
thanks
I'm a double major in Phil and Econ. I'm not sure about how it will influence MBA admissions. What I will say is that my final interview to get the summer analyst stint I completed last summer was with the global head of the sponsors group at a BB. He was a philosophy major many years ago and we talked about my abroad experience at Oxford doing philosophy most of the interview. Philosophy is what I love doing in school and it tangentially paid off when I was trying to crack into banking.

A double major will have a very minimal impact on your b-school application. Focus on something you enjoy and then do well in that area. Adcomms would obviously prefer to see a single major 3.5+ GPA rather than a double major 3.1 GPA. If you can manage a double major I would certainly recommend it. Good luck.
so if i can get a 3.5+ in Econ+Philosophy it would give me a better chance at a top business school than a 3.5+ in just Econ? i find philosophy a lot easier than econ, so it might even help my gpa.
the only thing is, i would have to cram those classes into my the remaining quarters, which would be very difficult and result in a much harder courseload for me, especially since im taking next quarter off to do a field studies program. is the double major really worth it?
I'm a double major in finance and economics and it has done absolutely nothing for me when it comes to recruiting, scholarships, etc. I do feel I better understand how business and the economy works, but my GPA took a hit due to the extra classes. Not worth it IMHO.
philosophy... not worth it for what you want
major in what will get u the higher gpa. the actual major u picked wont matter to employers or b schools. go for philosophy.

Hello,
So I'm currently a Sophomore at Rutgers University – New Brunswick and I am considering switching my Finance and Economics Double Major with a Philosophy Minor to a Finance and Philosophy Double Major. The Econ Department here is not that great but the Philosophy department is world renowned (top 5 in the world or something like that). My goal is to land an internship in IBD and just wanted to see what the general consensus here is about philosophy. Currently, my GPA is a 3.9 and I've done two internships in Private Equity and most of my employers like the fact that I have some grounding in philosophy.
Thanks.
