Fall back options for IB

What are some fall back options pursued by those who don't make it into IB right after undergrad?
I was thinking something like working for a startup, or are those also highly competitive? Do people who have had MM/BB PWM/BB IBD internships throughout undergrad have an easier time getting these "fallback" positions?

Go into something that sounds interesting to YOU! Startup, brokerage house, whatever. Get a cool job and kick ass every-single-day at it!

But are they somewhat easier to get with IBD internships? I'm wondering mainly how businesses other than investment banks view IB experience

All I know is that my passion for the markets extends beyond just doing IB and that people can see it. In fact I have an interview/supper tomorow for an exempt market dealer because of this passion!

I think CF FP&A/Treasury/Strat./FLDPs would build a more banking relevant skill set than PWM would so stay open to these positions. Valuations groups are probably even closer...

jasper90@OP: are you saying you did an IB internship, and can't land an IB job? I dont think others will look down upon this, especially bigger companies. and of course for small firms, they may be wary you will leave as soon as you get an IB job, but this is something you will have to sway them from thinking.

Well I'm still a sophomore now. I have an MM internship this summer and I have some part time work lined up at a BB PWM near my campus for the next academic year as well. I'm asking if, in the event that I don't get an IB job after my junior year (a situation which I'd prefer to not have happen), would other types of companies such as valuation and advisory firms, startups, F500, etc really value that IB experience if I apply to their finance positions? Or would they just be like "eh, this guy worked at an MM bank etc" vs "OH this guy worked at an MM bank!"
