Five Weeks Off Between Jobs?
I’m starting a new job on May 27th, in a completely different industry, and am curious to know how much time I’m “allowed” to take off during the transition. My new job will require me to re-locate, and I have little familiarity with the new city. I also was planning on being abroad from May 12 – May 25, a trip I booked months before I ever interviewed for my new job. As such, I was hoping to put in my two weeks on April 11, shooting for an end-date of April 25. This would mean approximately five weeks off between jobs, giving me ample time to find a new apartment, visit friends / family, and just have some well-needed rest.
How will this be perceived by business school admissions or future employers? Is three weeks the norm? From a resume standpoint, I can easily write that Job A is through April 2014, and that Job B starts in May 2014. Thanks for your assistance.
Five weeks of vacation? Take it. You never know when you're going to get something like this, it's a gift.
Worst case, you can make up some story about how the start date at the new job was delayed. Adcoms aren't going to care. These are people that take off for several months every summer...
Doesn't matter. You're transitioning between jobs. On the off chance that they ask, that's all you say, but they won't ask because they won't care. It's not really a "hole" in your resume by any means.
This sounds fine to me. I really doubt adcoms will drill in about this.
Good luck in your new gig. Enjoy your time off!
Take it. I took 4 weeks off in between.
Awesome. Thanks for the feedback guys. Looking forward to this.
