Fixed Income Research Full Time Recruiting

I'm interested in applying to full-time positions for fixed income research or trading at BBs. Is it anything like IB recruiting where it starts insanely early and networking like crazy is ultimately what matters? Any insights from people who have went through this process would be appreciated.
