Follow up or assume I'm done?

Hey guys,

I recently sent an alumnus of my school at a boutique investment bank a cold email asking for a phone call. A couple days later he had one of his associates get back to me- he first asked me for my resume before fixing a time to talk. It's almost been a week and no response since. Should I follow up with the associate or assume that they screened my resume and didn't want to pursue the conversation further?

For what it's worth, I'm from a target (although the boutique doesn't have an intern program), looking for an off-cycle type of an internship (somewhat unique circumstances), and honestly don't have the best resume in the world (GPA isn't an auto-ding but not impressive, somewhat impressive prior internships but no serious experience in modelling and other hard technical skills).

If you do advise following up, how should I phrase my email to avoid coming off as overeager or annoying?

Thanks!

A lot of people fall into this trap of "if they don't respond, they must not be interested or they don't think I'm qualified." More often than not, that isn't the case. Given the number of emails bankers receive, networking emails will be at the bottom of the priority list. We're all human and between emails asking for deliverables and other projects, they most likely forgot.

Send a follow up email and if nothing comes of it, just move on. Most likely they will respond. I've waited weeks after emailing an alumni, but once I followed up I got a response and meeting on the tables right away.
