Fx Traders

Hello Monkeys,

Some background - I recently got an interview with a boutique prop firm and they enquired over the my FX trading experience. Basically I was spinning my trading story over the top, and they asked for a list of trades for my performance over the years in school.

I obviously have none at all since I was spinning a tall tale, Now I have a 2nd interview waiting for me and no P&L sheet to show.

Any suggestions? Not sure if this is too much to ask but if anyone could PM me their personal fx portfolio p&l, i would be greatly indebted to you.

Regards,
Regretful monkey

if you are serious, you're doooomed!

Remember that coach for Notre Dame that lied about where he got his Bachelors? Neither does anyone else.

Even if you get the job, you wont be able to keep up having never traded before.

Save yourself some dignity withdraw, learn to trade, keep a positive track record, apply again.

I have to agree with this. I don't know exactly what you said in that interview, whether you said "I made 6K on the Cable", or was spinning a over the top but still vague story. You have two options

A: Go to the interview with no P/L sheet and hope they don't ask about it or if they do say that it was all mock trading (or something along those lines, but only do this if you actually have some idea about trading which I am not sure you do). This option really depends on what you said and how bold you are. You may get called out for being a liar, in which case you should confess. It is not like they are a major firm that can black ball you and I this is not the first time someone has lied in an interview.

B: Drop the interview and just keep looking for something new.

"Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, for knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA."

You're an idiot. You should not have bullshitted on your résumé and I'm sure you know prop firms take past P/L history very seriously, even if you weren't profitable, as long as you are able to talk about your experiences and strategy. I hope the grill the shit outta you with a battery of FX and macro questions.

Eitherway, your best bet for now is to claim it was a paper account used as part of your school's trading competition or something if you guys have one.

Omg. I m fked

Probably. Who knows maybe you can spin it. FX trading is a lot of tecnnical analysis and macro news. They don't hold positions overnight (at least from my experience). Maybe talk about how you traded SPDR ETFs based on a head and shoulders graph. Traded it up and then sold it on the way down. That's at least plausible for a student.

At this point your probability of being fvcked is pretty high. But you still do have a small chance to land the job, and since your right out of school they aren't going to give you millions of dollars to trade right away anyways. Maybe you can fool enough people to land the job and then you will get the training and experience you desire. So your expected value tells you that a 5% chance of FX trading is worth taking the shot on the interview.
