getting a job in finance

Hi guys, I’ve been looking on jobs from indeed for finance or get my foot in to the banking industry.

I currently work as a sales person for a telecommunications company, my dilemma is that I’m great at it but there’s not room for moving up. I make great money and any job I take in fiancé will cut my salary almost in half.

any ideas on how I can get in to a finance career??

I have a degree in business management and marketing.

Why do you want to get into finance? If it's glamour and the lifestyle you're seeking because Wall Street is supposedly depicted that way, it's definitely not that and only a very small portion of people within in this industry live like that. I'll be honest, this industry is getting smaller and it seems to be gearing towards more cost cutting each year. Banks, hedge fund, asset management, you name it.

personally, i would love to leave this industry but I don’t really have passion for anything else unless it was real estate. the problem with finance is that there is never job security compared to health care or engineering. this is my biggest issue being in this industry and sometimes, i go through phases of regrets.

yes I know all about the life style, but I make around 100k(can’t really complain)a year and work roughly 35-40 hours and not going to lie it’s an amazing job with an amazing company. but I always had a passion for finance and investing and of course selling.

but the biggest factor is the glass ceiling that I have in my current company.

it seems that you have to work at my company for 10 years just to move up and honest my managers do t really make much more than I do. I felt comfortable for a long time I want to step away from that.

Easiest transition would be sales of financial products. I would recommend pursuing a sales opportunity at an investment management firm. That is likely to have the most overlap with your current role. Of course, you'll have to do some research and develop a good understanding of different investment products as well as have a story for the inevitable why finance question. However, you're on here so it seems like you're off to a good start.

You could start selling Bloomberg Terminals

They make so much money. I met this lady once when I used to work in retail banking, I was super young and I didn’t know much about capital markets but she cane into the branch to do some transaction and I pulled up her checking account and damn, she was making buck-koo money. I think it was all commission but she did well, I must say. I’m not sure if it was terminal but she was selling something for Bloomberg.

Ya, I also know a guy from Bloomberg who is selling their products to local universities, and he does damn well too
