Good Interview but no offer. What's wrong?
I have been doing several interviews for 4 investment banks. I had a minimum of 3 interviews for each one and a maximum of 7 for a certain IB.
One IB even rejected me after making me wait very long and then called me again to participate in another AC, but then rejected me again.2 of these 4 IBs haven't given a feedback yet, but more than a month has passed. They just continue to call me and say to be patient and let them know if I have competing offers.
One IB rejected me saying: even if you performed well in the interview, we had other candidates who better match the skills required.
The point is, I perform very well in the interviews, and this is demonstrated by the compliments I get while interviewing and by the fact that an IB called me again for another AC, and after rejecting me again said: the feedback was very positive so we will keep your application open.
Why do they give positive feedback but never give me an offer? What am I doing wrong? Is it all because I don't come from target school? Is it cuz I am already 25 and I have just 1 non relevant work experience? Shouldn't final decisions depend on interview performance only?
Ps: This is all for Sales and Trading roles at top 10 IB (summer, off-cycle, full time roles)
I echo with you.
I’ve recently got rejection too despite very good positive feedback, but they also told me there were also candidates who better fit for the role. I really don’t understand why…..
Maybe I do.
I’m not a man. I’m not white.
There could be a million reasons and it happens to all of us. I've been through so many rounds of interviews at different firms, crushed the technicals, felt like I got along with the interviewers and was a good personality fit for the team, even sucked a couple of dicks to get to the next round. But after getting rejected I would look up the group on LinkedIn a couple weeks later to see if I could find who got the job and for one it was a guy with an MBA from Sloan, one was a guy from Stanford, another was a blonde girl from Cornell. I went to UMiami which can't really compete with this schools. Not using that as an excuse but just because I did well in the interview doesn't mean that there wasnt a dozen other people with impressive resumes who did well in the interview too.
What if you performed as awesome as someone who went to an Ivy and had relevant work experience? Wouldn’t you choose that candidate over you? The forum makes it seems as though it’s simple to find jobs because “the labor market is hot”, but the truth is it’s always hard to land offers from top places no matter the labor environment.
