Has Anyone Been Waitlisted and Received An Offer?
Just did a superday for SA 2025 position last week and received an email today stating I am waitlisted, and that if any positions open up, they'll extend an offer. I'm wondering if this has actually happened to anyone and they've ended up receiving an offer? I put a lot of time networking with the firm and ideally would like to work there as I've enjoyed getting to know the team. Any advice on what to do from here? Much appreciated
Of course. Plenty of people have multiple offers, get other firms to accelerate, or turn down the offer to pursue another. I wouldn't get your hopes up but it's not done until it's done.
That said, sit tight, don't harass them or follow up a zillion times. Keep recruiting, you can politely email HR in 1 week to see if there's an update and re-express interest
This is great advice! Thank you so much
Based on the insights from the WSO threads, being waitlisted after a superday is not uncommon, and there are indeed cases where candidates on the waitlist have eventually received an offer. Here's what you should know and consider doing:
Stay Positive and Patient: Being on the waitlist means you've made a strong impression. The firm sees potential in you but might not have an immediate spot due to various reasons, such as headcount limitations. It's a situation that can change, so maintain a positive outlook.
Keep Networking: Continue to engage with the team and the firm. Your ongoing interest and efforts to stay connected can reinforce your commitment to working there. Networking can also keep you top of mind should a position open up.
Express Your Continued Interest: It's appropriate to send a thank-you email to your interviewers and the HR team, expressing your gratitude for the opportunity and reiterating your interest in the firm. Mention that you're looking forward to any future possibilities.
Prepare for Other Opportunities: While you're hopeful about this role, it's wise to continue exploring and applying for other opportunities. The job market, especially in high finance, is highly competitive, and having multiple options can be beneficial.
Seek Feedback: If possible, ask for feedback on your interview performance. This can provide valuable insights into areas for improvement, whether for this role or in future applications.
Be Ready: Sometimes, spots open up unexpectedly, and the firm might reach out with little notice. Ensure you're prepared to respond promptly and positively.
Remember, being waitlisted is not the end of the road. Many candidates have shared stories on WSO about moving from the waitlist to receiving an offer, often attributing their success to persistence, continued networking, and demonstrating an unwavering interest in the firm. Keep pushing and being patient.
