How are non-tech people perceived at tech companies?

Hi everyone,

I am about to complete my second FO internship at a BB. I will start my masters degree in September, and am also considering tech companies such as Google/FB/Tesla etc for future internships/employment. However, I do not have a tech background. Are people who work in corp strat/corp dev/marketing/sales at tech companies considered second-rate employees compared to the engineers, or should I not worry about this? Please discuss.

Uh, no? They are every bit as important, if not much more so. Doesn't matter how good your product is if nobody hears about it (marketing), you can't get anyone to buy it (sales), your company reputation sucks (PR/IR/comms), your balance sheet is totally upside down (corpfin), and you have no idea where you're headed 5 years down the line (corpstrat/dev).

Don't worry about prestige. Work hard, stay hungry, be successful.
