How much of a disadvantage is not having a Freshman summer internship for recruiting?

For the last few months I’ve been cold emailing/calling local wealth management firms, boutique IBs, and search funds trying to find an internship for this summer.

With wealth management firms I haven’t been able to have much luck, except for one that interviewed me but ghosted me after. With search funds I had a lot more luck though, getting through 2-3 rounds of interviewing for four of them, but getting ghosted after the final round. I followed up with one of them that said they could take me on in the fall and to reach out again in a month or two, but I’m a bit skeptical of if they actually mean it.

I’m still trying to reach out to more firms and haven’t given up all hope, but I can acknowledge by this point that I probably won’t get anything, and with how common these freshman summer internships are now among those who successfully recruit for IB, I am pretty worried.

Would anyone be willing to share any advice on the next steps I should take to put myself in a better position? Or just share your thoughts on how crucial a Freshman internship really is?

Thanks
