How to make the career switch
Currently I am a Vice President for JPM in an operations role making good money. I am 27 and have an MBA but it is not from a top school by any means. I figured out later on with my education that I would prefer to be in a more finance oriented role. I will be sitting for the CFA Level 1 later this year.
I am struggling with the idea that it is too late for me to switch to a different side within this industry. I work with our IB partners often in my current role and find the work they do very interesting but I have no idea how to make myself stand out and break into that career field. Every job posting I read that is not a student career option wants 3-5 years of IB experience which I don't have and my current title while being positioned well does not speak to that experience.
Should I focus on staying in an operations role? I am well liked and am expecting to have a lot of growth in this role, but I have no passion for it. I have gotten a handful of interviews for Investment Consultant and underwriting, but those aren't entirely what I am wanting to do.
What can I do, where can I look, how do I stand out from my point of view? Are there other career paths I should look into to give me an edge? I don't care about a title decrease or significant drop in pay. I just want to change what I am doing.
