How To Progress in My Career? Leaving Compliance!

Hi All,

I recently decided enough is enough. I want to leave my financial crimes job. I’ve been working at a big bank in the southeast for the last year and a half. I joined a corporate risk development program. I graduated a year ago, and I’ve been in my role for six months. While the pay is good for the amount of work I do (I don’t do anything), I don’t want to do this long-term.

What are my realistic exit options? I want to get into either equity research or management consulting. I would settle for something like corporate banking. Or some middle office function where I’m doing something finance-related.

I’m a 28-year-old male. I’m a first Gen college student. I graduated college at 26 due to medical issues, which are taken care of.

I’m currently interviewing for a management consultant role in financial crimes. If I want to get out of financial crimes, I should not take this job and go along the process of interview practice

Please be honest. All answers are appreciated.

I’m a ER guy, and although a compliance background can be useful (like if we have a company that gets acquired), it’s not particularly warranted.

To get into ER you need to tighten up your actual financial knowledge and modeling.
