Is it even possible or worth it to jump from FAANG to Private Equity

I have a good friend in growth PE specifically tech sector (SaaS portfolio) at a smaller scale boutique. He works a lot but the work interests me and I’m ready to depart FAANG (at google right now). Any idea if it’s possible to jump into PE without IB background - and if so, how do you even get into interviews for firms if they aren’t on job boards lol

Thanks in advance

What about the other way around? Joining a MF PE firm focused on tech, but thinking of switching to FAANG.

Analyst 1's path is reasonable (far less rigid to go to FAANG, in spite of hiring headwinds). CMHS' path is a steep uphill battle. As many other posts recount, IB and MBB are the main paths to PE (investment team) given the financial training required for PE (that is likely absent from FAANG). If you can get a referral from your friend (into his shop), great, but I think you'll otherwise struggle to attract looks from recruiters who gatekeep most traditional associate recruiting.

lol i appreciate the reality check, but ive been told this shit again again and again in my career. i was in a different industry prior to FAANG and i still made it happen. had to change roles a handful of times and its not fun but i made it

sales, L4, yeah 700+ tc is real but its for senior staff. some sales folks get lucky and have a 7 figure year but its rare and so much work

PE Ops is your friend. Become a Chief Revenue Officer or something of a PE-backed tech play. I know someone in my extended family that became more of a PE ops guy after making it to mid-senior levels in the Big Tech space. Worth well over $10M, mostly through equity payouts from operational roles at investor-backed companies that sold to strategics.
