I interned at a small private equity firm and included selected transaction experience. Not only did it improve my resume by allowing me to add 3 bullet points each to two projects, thus allowing me to remove some less relevant filler stuff on my resume, but I was also asked about these projects almost exclusively through recruiting. For me, I was able to talk about each one extremely well and always had really solid answers. I thought it was something that made me stand out and let them know I really worked on it as opposed to just writing buzz words to make it seem like I did.

If you know the projects and can answer questions about them well, I'd say it can't hurt (I felt the same way regarding pretentiousness but ultimately it got me the offer I wanted so who knows). To caveat, I would usually go into my answer saying something like "Given my internship was at a very small firm, I was very fortunate to take on some unique experiences". I thought that would offset the "flex" of having selected transaction experience.
