Is it worth rowing if your school offers a club program?

From what I understand, men's crew isn't an NCAA sport. My school is a member of the American Collegiate Rowing Association but otherwise crew here isn't a varsity sport - it's a club sport. I really enjoy the workouts (I'm in the best shape of my life) and our time commitment is on par with other DIII schools, but honestly how important is the varsity vs. club difference in terms of recruiting?

Probably a lot different, don't think club would help nearly as much in the resume screen, but maybe once you're in the interview and talk about the commitment necessary it could help

Rowing is absolutely worth it, especially if you like it. It's club at my school as well (which is a shame, given how hard they work), but I've bonded with rowers in the business world over it, even though I'm no longer on the team (an injury forces me to stick with indoor rowing).

My best guess is that varsity sports carry more weight in recruiting, and perhaps significantly. However anyone who knows anything about rowing will understand the time commitment etc involved. Additionally, don't plan your activities solely around what will look good for recruitment purposes/on your resume- just do what you enjoy, in the long run (shit, and the short run too) that'll be much more fulfilling and will make you much happier. I personally think you answered your question when you said you love rowing.

Thanks for the replies. I am planning on continuing with rowing regardless, but I just wanted to know. Does it help for recruiting that fewer than 10 sports at my school are on the varsity (DIII) level?
