janestreet - interview

This deserves a forum post coz it's kinda hilarious. One of my buddies working for JS just informed me about a hilarious interview.

They call up the interviewee who apparently is quite bright. This kid published some serious math papers before gettin a degree. They ask him a few elementary questions but this kid refuses to answer the questions and/or answers the questions correctly w/out providing any solution path. Kiddo felt offended by elementary questions and rejects JS for further consideration before JS can reject him for uncooperative attitude. Respect!

I knew a few kids who pulled that move during SA interviews.
Math majors who crushed the mental math questions but had no interest in finance.

As for JS being more selective than GS. This is once again pure B.S. Maybe this is also the reason why some of you here didn't make it very far coz judgment here is not very analytically based. Think of it, statistically, how many people work for GS ? And how many people do work for JS ?

That is to say, in analogous departments GS is far far more selective.

assume he worked for GS :

client: "can i ask a few elementary questions?" the smart kid: "no, i refuse to answer."
