This seems pretty fishy. Either HR is super incompetent (because nobody really cares about your high school job) or someone from behind was pulling strings to get to rescinded and have their own person there.

Either way good news is that you proved yourself you can get top IB slot. Life sucks and this is one of those times it sucks alot, but keep your head high and believe in yourself. Good luck

I bet someone is pulling strings from behind. One other person I know was given a verbal offer then rescinded after a surprise additional interview.

What this means unfortunately, is those people inquired into the HR department, and HR responded saying we detected incosistencies in this persons resume and background check, and thus his offer was rescinded. We cannot share any more personal details or details about the investigation to employees, Thanks. Not much said people can do as they won't be told exactly what the inconsistencies are, and they have to trust HR to make the appropriate decision here. Have you got a copy of the background check? Or have you run one youself. Could help you understand exactly what they're seeing. Best of Luck, hope everything works out!

If any of you folks are in the NYC area and would be able to assist in helping me find a job, please let me know haha. Markets are tough right now and I have been having a really hard time. I also promise that this was the case and I do not have a hidden felony lol.

This is all incredibly bizarre however I don't believe that they were looking for a reason to rescind or someone found a better/connected candidate, as barring you from all future oppurtunities is incredibly harsh and frankly opens them up to a lawsuit if not completely legitimate. The important point for cases like these is whether there was an intent to deceive, and it seems like whoever in HR was reviewing your background check really didn't like what they saw and decided somehow you were intending to deceive the company. Could be fueled by assumptions, however the reality is its up to HR to decide whether this is a breach of policy for them. If a company wants to disqualify any candidate who makes even a small mistake on their resume, that's ultimately their perogative.

It's unfortunate you're not a person of color, or maybe you are, because a lawyer might be able to at least argue that it was a discriminatory practice, I doubt you'd win in court, but something like that is terrible press and JPM would most likely do their best to resolve it without public attention

So sorry to hear this. So stunned. After they called you with your verbal offer, and then followed up with your written offer, I imagine that is when the background check would start.  Didn't you have to input all your prior employers and dates in a separate submission to the background check company? I don't believe they use the resume you initially submit at the time of your initial application. Did you not have the opportunity to input the right dates at that time when agreeing to the background check & providing them with your details? Praying for you and keep your head up!

Happened to me few years ago when I was recruiting for an associate role at a PE fund. They had given me a verbal offer & I had drinks with the head of the team and he really reassured me & kept asking me to accept the offer. After accepting the offer, they just ghosted me for few weeks. After multiple follow ups apparently they went on "hiring freeze"... not exactly the same but this kinda thing happens. Sorry that it happened to you but you've already been through all the tough rounds so you'll get it next time. I would be careful making a scene though cuz the world is very small and people here hold grudges.

My guess - someone was pulling really hard for another candidate, and somebody had to get bumped for a spot to open up. Why is hard to say - it could be for a variety of reasons. Fuck HR - the fact that a gang of liberal arts majors has this much authority in corporate America is ridiculous. You will find another job, I promise you. The fact that you got as far as you did tells me you’re qualified. It’s always darkest out just before the sun comes up.

Hang in there man, it will all work out for you!
Everything happens for a reason and you may end up with an even better opportunity (this is coming from someone who got screwed over by MS - for other reasons )

There is light at the end of the tunnel , you just need to keep pushing through this time period and not let this set you back

HR is the definition of revenge of the C-student.

These people are miserable scum who are looking to impose their "authority" on others to make themselves feel better about their sad existence.
