Keeping in touch with recruiter post rejection

Does it make sense to keep the connection warm with a recruiter who ran the process you were rejected from (e.g., treat it like a distant connection, provide brief career updates or send interesting articles every few months, etc.)

Followed up re my status for the specific job got a very swift and kind response. I suspect the posting won’t be the last one for this position this year and I want to maximize chances of being reconsidered if it surfaces again.

Recruiter as in headhunter, or the firm that was hiring?

If the latter, usually you are « burnt » - it’s unlikely that you are successful for round 2 if the team that manages the process is the same.

What could work however is a situation where you apply for another team (other sector or product vs sector), and things line up so that you don’t get disqualified early.

I’m pretty sure that in the past I recommended candidates internally that didn’t work out for our team but could fit another.

If you’ve connected with someone in the team (VP or staffer or whoever), and you think it clicked, it might be worth reconnecting after a few months. Reiterating your interest for the team/firm etc

If it’s the headhunter - they’ll keep you in their system and reach out whenever anyway.
