Need help, I lied.

Alright everybody, I get it. I am an asshole. I am sorry. I am never doing this again. I lied about my GPA. BB is asking for a transcript. I have three options: 1: tell them I wrote my major GPA instead of my cumulative GPA by mistake (which is true) 2: fake transcript 3: send transcript in and hope they won't notice. 4: turn down the offer to save my reputation and stay on a good page with HR for the future.

What do you think? i really feel guilty and I really want to work for them. Do you think it's a good idea if I just bluntly talk to HR about it, say it was a mistake. i am sorry...etc

I would do option 3: if they do end up getting back to you on it, say it was your major GPA and then take it from there.

Option 2 would probably put you in jail for falsifying and forging important records

"Pizz" Option 2 would probably put you in jail for falsifying and forging important records

haha what?

That’s an episode of “Locked Up: San Quentin” I’d really love to see.

"I know you think you understand what you thought I said but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant."

First, it's good that you know that you made a big mistake, don't do it again. Second, how big a gap we talking between cumulative and major? If it's higher than 0.15 then that's it's going to be noticed unless they just don't care.

Agree with the guy above, sending it in is best

Faking it is really bad and option 4 is meh. Option 1 isn't good because you won't ever see your official transcript and there's no way for you to see that you "made a mistake" on the GPA.

Just send it in and see if they say anything. If they do, then tell them that you put your major GPA and didn't mean to cause any problems.

So reaching out to HR is a bad idea? Do you they will appreciate my honesty? another question, if they see that I placed my major gpa instead of my cumulative, will they blacklist me?

I would do 3. It looks like you are overthinking it with everything else. With that being said, if they bring it up, apologize, say you accidentally put your major GPA.

You probably shouldn't be lying about your GPA in the first place, but good thing you realize that now

I think you realize this already, but it needs to be said on this thread...what you did is pretty f*cking slimy. I realize GPA is only one data point on someone’s overall profile as an applicant, but’s it’s very possible that the 3.9 elevated you over other candidates (candidates who didn’t lie on their resume). I hope you don’t believe in karma, bud. Because if you do, you’re probably really nervous right now.

Honestly just call yourself off if it’s a genuine difference. Lying and getting fired is way worse than just passing on an offer you didn’t honestly earn, plenty of kids hustle knowing that the stingyness of GPA can cost them a ding...I went honest with my gpa from a non target knowing damn well it might’ve cost me offers, still didn’t lie regardless, biggest thing is grow from your decision to do this.

Yeah man, you're going to have to go to the registrar on this one.

They are probably open normal hours, 9am - 5pm or something, so make some time to stop by their office...

... after hours. Bring all the tech you need. Your mission is to change your grades in the computer to the grade submitted to the bank. It is the only way life will make sense. Remember to be very exact on the GPA. Tweak out your grades on an Excel sheet before you go so you can just enter them in real quick when you get there. Done and done.

Option 1 is not the truth. I would stop lying if I were you. Go with option 3.
